Many moons ago, we had a good discussion of the varieties of the 1939 visit medal...maybe the discussion will be of some interest: Royal Visit Medal Varieties

Thanks Commems for linking to the original thread in 2011. I must get Haxby's "Striking Impressions". I'll check the RCNA library. Agree SPP on this as an interesting article topic.

Here are a couple of the 1939 medals I have in my collection, with their original boxes - the boxes aren't in pristine shape, but they're nice pieces of historical ephemera nonetheless. The boxes feature French and English printing (one side for each) and list the selling prices (as noted by SilverDon in his original post) of 10 cents for the bronze and 50 cents for the silver. Both medals feature the Percy Metcalfe obverse.

SilverDon, perhaps since you have the coins (to photograph), and a bit of knowledge with these tokens, you can write it up?

Excellent pictures of the original issue boxes, thanks for the post Commems, I saw a few of these on E-Bay in original boxes as well. Love the pricing, 10 cents, 50 cents.
Sorry, I was away for a few days and hadn't seen these updates until today.
SPP pm sent.

Thought this comparison picture of the two obverses would help people see the differences. Percy Metcalfe on the left and Thomas Shingles on the right.

Hey! Sorry about the bump, but people seem to be genuinely interested in these. I appear to have the PM, silver version of the medal. I suppose someone can confirm that for me. I don't actually collect coins, as such, and have no real knowledge as to how it came to be in my possession.

This is my collection of these medals. I do not have the aluminum coin yet. Does anyone know if there is a 30 mm bronze shingles coin.
