Hey everyone,
I already posted pictures of the Liberty coin I received in the main thread about the coin, but rather than distract from the topic, I decided to post a separate thread to see if I could get a few opinions. Today I had an opportunity to admire the coin in greater detail. I do have to say that the digital pictures on the mint's website don't do it justice and that they did do an overall good job with the coin as a final product IMO.
I was examining the reverse of my coin when I saw a couple a couple spots along the rim that raised question marks and wanted to get opinions if this was much ado about nothing or if I should be questioning the quality control in the stamping of the reverse.
On the rim, near the olive branches where the "DE" is stamped, from the picture it almost looks like there's a smudge or mark on the coin, when I eye examined the coin a little closer, it looks more like there's a bit of gold on the rim and touching the reed at that spot. The best way I can describe it is it's as if they didn't file it down to match the smoothness and consistency with the rest of the rim.
Also, between "States of", along the rim when looking at it closely it almost looks like theres scratches or a point of friction on that outer rim (almost like the die didn't come completely straight up and slightly scratched that area as it came up). Hard to tell 100% in the picture, but you can see it doesn't look as consistent as the rest of the rim.
I wanted to have it graded at the World's Fair next week, but I was curious if these question marks would affect the grading or looking too much into these details?
