I'd like to eventually sell this coin, and am wondering if, despite its obvious issues with bubbling (not sure of the exact term, but it's something I know is not uncommon with 1983-Ps) if it would still pay to send the coin into PCGS or NGC (or ANACS?) for certification and grading.
Should I sell it raw or get it certified? And if I do send it in, what grade do you think it'd likely attain?
NOTES: 1) what looks like a dark spot on Lincoln's forehead (see last picture) is just a raised spot (more bubnling) same color as rest of coin (same with the dark spot on the cheek) 2) the first two pictures are more accurate of how the coin looks in hand - but I then put it under harsh lighting so the extent of the bubbling could be better seen.
Thanks in advance.your help. As always, very much appreciated.
That is a BEAUTIFUL example, it doesn't have any "issues", that's how the 83's look.
The pictures are a little small but this coin hardly has any hits/stains for the issue. It's a LOT nicer than you're making it out to be. I would definitely send this to PCGS for grading, it's a $300+ coin all day long.
Wow. Thank you very much. I am pleasantly surprised and will definitely add this to the small collection of coins I have so far put together for my first try at third party grading.
Everyone's bern very helpful with the coins Ive posted so far, and when the time comes to actually submit them, I'm sure I'll be asking for advice abound that as well -- the do's & dont's and so forth.
Oh, and one more thing: I've been using the image optimizer and making sure the pictures are as close to the 200 pixel mark as I can come. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but there are lots of mentions that the pictures are small. I've been using my cell phone to take the pictures (as described in the tutorial) and to download them. Is there something I need to do to make them larger?
Use the Free Image Optimizer here at CCF. I take a shot with the iPhone, crop the picture there, send it to my computer (usually the Large file), optimize the contrast/color/brightness and then use the Optimizer. This way you keep the picture large in scale, but small enough regarding file size.
Rackster, thanks. I'm doing everything you say, but sending it to my computer - which, since my laptop crashed isn't an option. But when I get it back from the shop, or buy a new one I'll give it a try.
