Got this in change yesterday:

High-Block-Letter-On-$1-FRN

The last time (and ONLY time) I've seen an X in a serial number was on a silver certificate. The Gu'mint *really* has the printing presses running full-blast to get a block letter this high!

It's also in excellent condition for a San Francisco note showing up in a cash drawer in the Atlanta district.

Yep San Francisco is the only district so far that has gone that high in the letters on the dollar bill.

The run which produced your note took place in September 2014.

Ugh, I've had dozens of crisp ones pass through my cash drawer at work (NE Massachusetts). Even had one in my wallet. Now I learn that they're worth keeping.

I've seen a few as well, so are they worth holding on too?

I think "Z" is reserved for specimens. WXY are all in circulation. These are currently on my desk. (The Y is 1995. 2009 indeed ends with X. All X in the photo are 2009.)

Just checked the tables and only two $1 series have made it to block Y: 1988A and 1995. Good to know. Thanks!

Cool notes. I don't recall seeing (m)any X or Y blocks either, and for apparently good reason.

True for $1s, but 1996 $100s also got to the Y block. Just another little interesting tidbit.

Does anyone remember the months before Y2K? I think the reason the '95s got this high was because the government was printing emergency money just in case of a huge computer crash.

Found the following $1 1995 B/X in a strap today. Also including a photo of a $1 1988A B/X that I found a while back. Anyone else have more to show? Enjoy!
