I think I have identified this as a Belgian Leopold I medal by Jacob Wiener to commemorate the opening of the Maison D'arret prison 1854-1855. I am basing this on similar medals I have been able to find online although I cannot find this specific one. Can anyone confirm this or offer a possible value?
Indeed, it is the prison of Charleroi .If you give a transcription of the revers , I will translate it .Wiener made a lot of medals of prisons , value now 30-50 € for the prison- medals of Wiener .albert
Thank you. That is very helpful. As best I can see, the reverse says: Sous le regne de Leopold I roi des Belges. V Tesch, Ministre De Justice. Bon A de Hody, Administrateur des prisons. E.D. Ducpetiaux, inspect r gen l des prisons
The translation : Under the reign of Leopold I , king of Belgium , V.Tesch , Minister for Justice , Bon. A. de Hody , administrator of the prisons,E.D.Ducpetiaux ( big chief of the department of prisons) ,inspecteur general : general inspector of the prisons (big chief of theinspectors and supervisors). albert.
