I definitely agree that if you are going to re sell valuable coins on line, then slabbing them gives some confidence to the buyer that they are going to receive, is what has been described.
The fact that money has been spent on the grading implies that the buyer does not have to do do the same to help verify the value of what has been received. That must surely give some impetus to upping the value of the coin.

NGC may have private insurance on their shipments. Given they are an international business and the nutso regs about international registered mail, they SHOULD be doing so...

Apparently nothing for international. If I'd have known that o would have had it sent to a US address. I don't see how nobody can be legally responsible here, it's shocking.

Quote: All you ca hope now is that it eventually shows up. If it doesn't you might be able to get the $50 but probably that's it. If NGC got paid according to their submission form to insure it for $5,000 then they are responsible for 5K whether its actually insured for that amount or not. I have blanket insurance through Hugh Wood that covers every package coming in and going out. There is no actual "carrier" insurance.

But if NGC sent it Registered and insured it for $5,000 wouldn't that get them off the hook? If it had disappeared before it got to Canadian customs the USPS would have paid the $5,000. It isn't their fault that the USPS won't pay more than $50 on Registered once it leaves the country.

I would think NGC would have their own insurance that would cover them even if the package disappeared internationally

How on earth could NGC do international business shipments uninsured? They grade a lot of world coins from around the globe collectors.

Well what can I say, it finally arrived after a full month. The relief is palpable. Thanks all for your contributions in this thread, It's great to have such a helpful virtual reference book Here is the coin I was so worried about. I'm not home at the moment but I've had the coin picked up from the post so here's the NGC image.

Good. So now we're wishing not only the coin could talk but also the package! Oh the places you will see...

Told you it would get there. It was tied up in customs for a long time as NGC packages tend to be. Just because it said it was in Richmond on July 29th meant it had arrived at the Parcel plant from the airport nothing else. Customs can take up to 21 days to deal with any incoming package or longer if they see fit. Once Customs is through with it it sent on its merry way. Glad you got it. Nice coin.

Very, very nice coin I believe I would have been worried also. I have trouble with shipments from PMG (not their fault) but last two submissions after shipment by PMG back to me have taken eight (8) days and they are sent USPS 2nd Day Priority and Registered Mail. It's the Registered Mail that slows it down. USPS has to log it in and lock it up at each stop along the way. Glad you finally got your coin, breathe easy now.
