I gave up trying to keep track of what I have years ago, Far too much of a hassle.
Anyway every now and then I do a "Bin Dive" through my various draws and cupboards and I just Love finding stuff that I had totally forgotten about

I collect ancient Roman coins. I only have 14 of them at the moment so keeping track is not a current problem. I have Word document that lists all of the attributions for the coins. Each coin is in a mylar flip with a piece of paper. On the paper is noted the following information: attribution, place of purchase, date of purchase, amount paid.

ii have a half inch binder with a list of all US coins ever made. I cross out the ones I have. I am also compiling a list of key dates there. The list I downloaded from about.com titled "The complete checklist of United States coins."

I have been keeping an inventory on Excel. But it's becoming very unmanageable. Plus it tells me what I have not what I am missing. I downloaded the excel template from somplace on the internet. It is very detailed with quantity, description, demoniation, mkt value, cost paid, location, how obtained, etc.

So what info is most often in a collection tracking spreadsheet?

I use excel, and my table header is:
Date/Coin, Condition, Type, Face Value, Date bought, paid, retail price, location (loose, dansco, etc)

Another vote for google docs, also use google drive for pictures of coins that I have photographed. Both accessible on my phone if needed at LCS.
