So as I was searching a box of nickels one of these rolls out (pardon the pun)... I can definitely say I've never found one of these before: I guess you really never know what you will find.

That is definitely an unusual find. Is the date 1914? Nice addition to a foreign collection.

Yes that is a 1914. Was google searching this coin and find it interesting that the USA produced coins for the Phillipines until the end of WW2. Silver and a worthwhile history lesson- I'll take it anyday!

Nice find too.... I always consider these USA coins not foreign coins as Red Book has them listed in the guide book. Plus they have USA on the one side plus Philippines was part of the USA at the time, kinda like the territories now. another interesting fact is that Phil coins used the 4th US mint in the set P,D,S and M

Technically that coin is both a Philippine and U.S. Coin. Philippines were a territory under U.S. Sovereign until July 4 1946 so roughly one year after ww2 ended. USA fought heavily to keep control of it from the Japanese. Most of the Philipines coins were made in either Denver or San Francisco. These coins have a lot of history to them. It always helps when you can spread a little history since I am a social studies teacher from NY. I actually bought a bunch of them both dime and quarter sized coins from 1944/1945 for my friend for silver prices.
