I picked this up a few weeks ago and am just getting around to posting it here. The patina is very nice.

The description says it has been tooled.
That will greatly reduce the value.
In these pictures, the fields appear to be very smooth.
The lettering is sharper than what I would expect for an untooled coin.
Despite all that, the patina is very consistent in all areas.

Whoever did the tooling did a pretty good job. The value of the coin is going to be effected as sel has said.

If it has been tooled, could the patina be false?

I bought the coin from Forvm so I am not worried at all about authenticity. I believe the patina to be genuine. As for the tooling, I bought this coin for 40.00 which is much less than if it had not been tooled. Also, I really liked the look of this coin so the tooling does not bother me.

Thanks for the comments.

i looked at few of these online, the tooling didn't stray from what the coin is supposed to look like. so is the "tooling" that has been done smoothing of the surfaces? the surfaces are amazing...dang.

Forty dollars is a very nice price. Hard to argue about a coin minted under Caligula with such nice eye appeal for that price !
