1987-D with split plating should be worth one cent, but the photo you showed looks like more than that. I would be interested in seeing the rest of the coin.

That's a beautiful repunched mint mark (RPM), one of my favorites. It's a CopperCoins 1987D-1MM-003. Split plating would subtract value from such a coin (not add).

Without seeing the rest of the coin obverse and reverse, hard to tell what the value is.

CM, that is split plating under the primary MM, but there is something going on with the bottom of the primary MM

CoinMasters, without creating a drawing, an easy way to visualize it is: Place your palms together and interlace your fingers. The thumb of one hand will be on top and the pinky of the other hand will be on the bottom. These two mint marks are interlaced. The top of the one mint mark is on top -- and the bottom of the other is on the bottom. The two mint marks they "blend" together and cross over each other, probably a little higher than in the middle where the mint mark is the fattest (on the east).

The example I have of this die also has the spltting area below, so it may have been common on these?

I don't think it is strong enough to lower the value. If it were going to start zinc rot, it would have been noticeable by now.

This one is listed as a north. When you look at the main mint mark it is south of the RPM to the north.

It looks like a tough call, but the RPM to the north also affects the inside of the mint mark showing a north there as well. . The complete mint mark is to the south. (the north on the lower loop is deceiving on this one)
