First post, but long time reader. My LCS had a number of coins available today, but the large amount made me want to ask the forum your thoughts. The following coins are available:
1925D $2.5 quarter eagle XF $225
1837 50cent XF $170
1874 $3 dollar gold $675
1858 quarter dollar $90
1879O Morgan dollar slabbed MS63 $225
1881 $5 half eagle gold $265

I have pictures of the $2.5, $3, $5, and 50cent I can post although the $2.5 and $3 are a little blurry. Wanted to see thoughts on value.

We would need better pics to help determine, to me the $5 dollar gold looks cleaned, and maybe the $3 gold piece too.
The capped bust half is definitely xf, and $170 is a reasonable price based on Heritage past auctions.

170 for the half is ok if the fingerprints are on the flip and not on the coin.

Cleaned or not, that is a good price on the $5 gold half eagle.

That coins melts for nearly $270 at the moment.

Gold under melt is always a good buy, assuming it is real.

Looks like your dealer is a cleaner. Cleans them to make them look pretty. Helps sell to the unsuspecting. And remember at the rate Gold is dropping in value, many Gold coin prices too are dropping. Take your time and look up each coin in places like Numismedia or ebay.

I'm a bit suspicious about the $3, I heard many of those coins are faked.

The polished 1881 for below melt is a bargain. If you don't like the looks it's a great coin for home experiments in un-cleaning with acetone, frying pan, dirty pockets, etc. It's probably real but check the weight - should be 8.2-8.3 grams - below 8 grams would be a no-buy signal.

Unlike other types of coins, cleaned gold coins will still have a respectable value, even if it is just melt. But even cleaned, a $5 Liberty is lovely, and at $265 is a deal I would like to take advantage of myself! Wish my LCS had prices like this.

But with thg - check it out to be sure it's real.

My LCS prices polished ex-jewelry half eagles the same way. I was quoted $335 on uncleaned, $280 on cleaned 2 weeks ago, so $265 looks very good.

Another LCS I visit had sold their entire raw US gold inventory. No one is selling to them right now and a lot of people are eager to buy. French and Swiss 20F's have been scant as well, though I've seen quite a few British and German pieces.
