I just wondered what others think about the mint having a 17,000 mintage on these sets. Do you think they didn't think it'd be that popular? I imagine they spend a good amount of time preparing the dies so wouldn't it make more sense to produce more to maximize profits?

I got two sets yesterday, but missed the first one. The website timed out constantly and I was afraid I'd miss out on this one too. After a little persistence I was able to place my order at 12:06. I checked back again at 12:10 out of curiosity and it was sold out.

Shouldn't they up the mintage of things like this? 17K is very low. What are your thoughts?

Yes the mint messed up. The previous sets were stagnant at a 20k mintage and they thought 17k was enough but thought kennedy would be slightly more popular so they set him at 25k. Here's the rub... they completely overlooked the reverse proof finish and what that would do for interest/sales. It was too late to up the ike mintage so they lowered the hh limit to 2 and now we know how that worked out. The upped the kennedy now to 50k (which still isn't going to be enough) and will probably up the Johnson and Regan from 17k as well... you just scored an instant key date coin that will only increase in value over the years. You won the mint lottery in a small way, congrats!

I have to say I would be shocked if Johnson stays at 17k. Popularity of the president is immaterial, the reverse proof is the motivating factor.

Coin World article about the Eisenhower drop mentioned the Johnson set will be raised to 25,000, making the Truman and Eisenhower RPs the keys of the Presidential $1 series. Reagan is sure to be at least 25,000 if not more.

The "new" Mint needs to have everything ready for shipping when a product goes on sale...so...they have to decide NOW what the limit will be....

25k will be another frenzy....Nice

I don't know about that, even though there is 50K of the Kennedy coin, I think there will be a large demand for this coin. People now have several series they need to complete by having this coin. Is this lowest mintage Kennedy coin ever minted, I thought I heard that somewhere? I think demand will greatly outweigh the supply causing websites to crash again and people being disappointed they weren't able to get in and get one. Another quick sell out.

Kennedy will have same sellout conditions as truman & ike. Secondary market I see them going $150-$175 at first and down to $100-125 once it settles down.

Truman I see settling at $175-200 after ike bump

Ike I see leveling off around $250 +/- after the fever passes

5+yrs... ?

I actually like the limited mintage products. Look at the resell values of these and tell me what other modern coin has such a high value? That is what most are complaining about - they didn't get one straight from the mint and look what they are selling for... personally - I had already been collecting the C&C sets and like them for what they are. I read how many here want the RP coin and are totally ignoring the actual package they are getting - the Ike medal to me was worth the purchase price. (altho I wish they would have included the bronze medal as well)
