Hello,
This is my first post here, so hello everyone! Found the below coin in Hampshire, UK. Some sort of bust on the front and perhaps an eagle on the back. Does anyone have any suggestions what I could have here please?
Thanks
Laura

Hello and welcome.

Your coin is indeed Roman. If you look at the obverse (portrait side), you'll notice the emperor depicted there is wearing a "radiate" crown - the spiky headgear. This, plus the coppery appearance, indicates that this coin is a debased-silver antoninianus from about the mid-200s AD. Emperor Claudius II or Gallienus would be my best guesses, but I can't read enough of the lettering to pick it any closer.

Yes indeed it is Claudius II a much beloved emperor who earned the name Gothicus in battle.
I notice that the first example given by Bob L is attributed by a friend of mine Mark L.
I will have to give him a 'poke' ! How can a postumous coin with a CONSECRATIO reverse be issued by the deified emperor on the obverse ! Quintillus reigned for a period of weeks after the death of Claudius but the sheer volume of this type seems to point to Aurelian as the "issuer".

Thanks for all your really helpful replies. After several hours looking through coin books and searching on the internet for comparable images, I did have my suspicions that it was a Claudius II, but being new to this it's always nice to know you are on the right track.

Thanks for all the additional information and the links to other images and internet resources! I shall be making good use of these for future finds (fingers crossed!)

Thanks,
Laura
