I am not seeing the normal signs of PMD on this one. No displaced metal, no zinc showing, no scratches near the depression to indicate a hit. Also notice in the close-up (this feature appears more dramatic on the full obverse photo due to the way the light hits it) how the fields seem to slope inward toward the depression. Would this possibly indicate that this feature was part of the planchet prior to the strike causing the metal in the fields to flow that way?

Only a guess but I think if the triangular depression was on the planchet first then the rim would (should?) be more well developed after stamping/pressing of the coin, itself.

Just noticed, you have a die crack a bit under the memorial under FG.

This looks like a bulge, if it is, it's post mint damage.

cwb, that's an awesome clue to be looking for. Indeed, the metal's gotta go somewhere. Thanks for that. :)

Good eye cwb, I think that may just be a shadow or reflection. Here are a couple of photos of the rim.

Could someone please explain the glaringly obvious feature of this coin that screams PSD? I am missing it, educate me please...

The zinc doesn't necessarily have to show.

Not sure about the struckthrough, but is that a die crack on the reverse under the initials?
