I have a 60 D prnny thats as thin as a piece of paper, only a few thousand's of an inch thick .The edge is gone all around from the L in Liberty to the 0 in the date.Lincoln's face is perfect and the memorial is perfect ,you can read "one cent" and the bottom half of"united states of america". It kind of looks like its been put in a press but if it had it would be distorted.Could it be that the blank piece of copper was thin when it was struck?

Can't wait to see pics!
If that planchet was that thin at strike, wouldn't the hammer die seriously clash with the opposing? I must admit I don't know how these presses actually work, but maybe a cent fully delaminated upon striking, stuck to the hammer die, which them restruck the delam on the opposing die? Just total guesses here...nobody should take that theory seriously

The likelihood, even without seeing it is that it was dipped in acid. It probably has a "grainy" surface and that is what it would look like after the acid ate away much of the metal.

Just a guess. A picture would help.
