Quote: Well, sadly nothing new today. Things have certainly dried up from the last couple of weeks. Perhaps something next time? We cannot win every weekend. Yes, there will be a next time.

From the post of 8 April: Quote: Furthermore, does anyone know why this 1 Afghani (and the 5 from last week) look so proof-like? As they apear to have been minted in the 1960's, coins with mirror finish like these should reasonbly only be proof, right? I did not see anyone else answer this, so I will give a try. I think some compositions can give a durable proof-like appearance, with nickel being one of them. I am thinking of Canadian coins. I also have a few aluminum coins from the Islamic world in the 1960s with proof-like appearance. Also, the Hong Coin looks very nice. I sold an UNC 1959 10 Cents for $10 a few years ago.

Sadly nothing new to report this week either. Weather was not kind to me this morning. Grey skies with rain. Quote: I did not see anyone else answer this, so I will give a try. I also have a few aluminum coins from the Islamic world in the 1960s with proof-like appearance. I know that especially modern coins from as early as the 1980's (Swiss and Dutch coins in particular) can look rather prooflike. Nickel is a generally lowly-reactive metal so its appearance doen't change much over time, compared to copper. What made me think these Afghan coins were proof are the clear mirror fileds with frosted, non-mirrorlike high poins. A contrast that is almost nonexistent on even the most brilliantly newly produced coins. They have very high relief (although most coins did during the 1960's). Perhaps they're just uncirculated standard issue, but the contrasts make me doubt. Cheers for chiming in!

Sadly nothing new today either. I was for once selling at a car boot sale - not at the Sunday market. The times didn't match so I had to choose.
...next week?

This week I'm back! Plenty of stuff to go around, like a buffet! 1 Kurush, Ottoman Empire (1255-7) 10 Cents, Netherlands 1848 50 Cents, South Africa 2003 20 Fils, Kuwait 1973 50 Fils, Kuwait 1983, 1985 & 1990 1000 Rials, Iran (1393) 2 Centesimi, Italy 1861 200 Lire, Italy 1996 ½ Frank, Switzerland 1969 10 Kopeyek, Belarus 2009 10 Escudos, Portugal 1991 50 Stotinki, Bulgaria 1999 1 Lev, Bulgaria 2002 10 Schilling, Austria 1979 10 Drachmai, Greece 1976 5 Øre, Denmark 1874 1 Markka, Finland 1922 5 Kronor, Sweden 1972, 1973 & 1977 50 Pfennig, Germany 1922-E & 1978-F 2 Mark, Germany 1973-J & 1991-D 5 Mark, Germany 1966-J & 1976-J Plenty of interesting stuff from different places and times. The Kurush has an amazing circulation cameo! The Belarusian coin was introduced on 1st July 2016 despite being minted 2009 and is part of Belarus's first ever coin series! The Kuwaiti coins are of pretty low denominations by looking at the numbers but belong to the currency that's the most valuable (per currency unit). For 90 kr, I'd say it's a fair deal

That's an amazing collection to get all at once. I am in awe of the Ottoman Empire coin. That's an amazing pick-up.

Excellent haul! And a 1977-5kr piece The four DM coins still have a total worth of approx. 70kr (redeemable at all Budesbank branches in Germany I'd say that's more than a fair deal.
