I just did a search for a 1924 S Peace dollar in MS condition for items that had ended. I couldn't believe the prices people were paying for obviously Overgraded coins. This one is AU cleaned at best! Item #320199206748. Do the search yourself and see how many in the $300 - $900 range have sold lately in these fake holders. Are people really that dumb? Is it greed? Someone is making a killing doing this. ebay needs to put an end to it or no-one is going to collect any-more!

I hate to say it but it really is a "buyer beware" mentality. I am not sure what ebay can do to stop this kind of stuff from going on. I thought the recent rule change as far as slabs go was a good start but what can they do? Someone gives an opinion (even a bad one) as to a coin's grade and if someone will but it, how can they stop it? Another example would be to describe a garment as "gently worn." Gently worn by who's standard? I know there is a much more objective scale available for coins but short of hiring a team of coin "experts" to evaluate all of the auctions it don't see it stopping anytime soon. For that matter, what is "expert" enough to fill this role? Who decides?

These questionable slabbing companies should be banned...new collectors will get taken in.

What would a fair price be for this coin? Pity the bidders ID is kept secret..maybe someone would be willing to let people know they are paying way too much and to head them in the right direction. Do unto others..right? And Karma...it comes around!

I bought a coin from them one time. Supposedly MS66 (no, I did not pay top dollar for it). They were dipped and cleaned, most probably AU to low UNC details. Ended up reselling them at a loss because I just didn't like it.

1sikevo, I would recommend NEVER buying a coin from someone who sells them in boiler room slabs. Even I ignore the slab and bid based on the coin, I simply don't trust the seller.

When I get the entire history-hype of a coin from a seller on-line, I know he/she's trying to convince me of something he/she thinks I dont know that, while having some experience, I already know...therefore, I take a pass each time. They target inexperienced collectors...straight up.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If it sounds more than fair, it probably isn't.

There are no free lunches.
