Can anyone shed some light on this 1977 nickel? I've
never seen a nickel that was fully a brownish color. I
also see some doubling on different areas on the front and back. MD?

I'd guess it was environmental damage - perhaps buried in the ground and dug up by someone with a metal detector.

Thank you NumisRob

Hmmm I would think so to. The nickel is
A little darker than the pictures show and the rim is
brown fully all the way around. Different than I've
ever seen. I have a 2001 red one as well. Curiousity
is getting me lol. The closest thing I could find
that resembled this was a 1977 5c nickel
struck on 1c planchet.

Yeah, probably found with a metal detector. I find dark colored nickels frequently when metal detecting.

Or, I have had a pink penny before. Salt + Vinegar + Zincoln = Pink penny. Also, someone could've used color to turn a nickel red. Shapie perhaps?

Wow thanks guys. It makes more sense that
It was probably dug up, also it looks just like that
Dark nickel in the example above that Koinpro
showed. Over the last couple of years if I came
across something that caught my eye it went in
with the others to at some point check out. The
other one I held onto was the reddish pink one
and my grand daughter loves that one and keeps
It with her for luck :) so that one stayed still while
I checked on this one. Thanks for the help you
guys I very much appreciate it.
