82 year old Khaled al-As'ad was a university professor who spent his life painstakingly reconstructing the history of Palmyra, Syria. He was killed for refusing to surrender the location of Palmyra's ancient treasure.

Lets not forget his sacrifice...may his cup never be empty. A true hero of the ancient world., worthy of song and story.

Please post your best coins of Syria.

The world has gone mad but glad to see that some people are brave enough to stand firm against these philistines and barbarians.

We have seen on previous occasion what happens to valuable and irreplaceable artefacts when these people get their hands on them. Not the actions of logical or rational people.

Its too bad this doesn't have enough attention. You don't have to be into ancient coins to recognize this great man and his achievements. My condolences to any family Khaled al-As'ad might have.
