A sestertius of Marcus Aurelius showing Felicitas with Caduceus and Scepter on the reverse. Antoninus II. Marcus Aurelius, 161-180. Æ-Sestertius, 179, Rom; 22.25 g. Bust r. //Felicitas standing l. with Caduceus and Scepter. BMC 1695; Coh. 186; RIC 1239. I admire M. Aurelius for his accomplishments, and acquiring this coin was a fitting way to show this. The detail on the portrait is quite good. The reverse is unfortunately weakly struck so that the head of Felicitas is only weakly impressed. Report this Post to the Staff

I have been looking to buy a decent sestertius for a while yet reject the majority for being in bad shape. Not many have a portrait as good as yours, or such a pleasing patina and though I see what you mean about Felicitas I have certainly seen her in worse shape. I'd say that you have a nice example there, and if you feel a particular bond with M Aurelius then that makes the coin even more special. Report this Post to the Staff
