Just bought this 1949 Canadian dollar for about $20 was wondering what grade to give it..? also does this coin look cleaned as I dont have enough experance to tell yet thanks in advance....

clinne, nice example!
I find silver coins are hard to grade by photos, due to the mint finish getting hidden by toning, etc.
However, there's enough hair detail around George's ear to merit an XF I think. Regarding whether it has been cleaned, I do see directional streaking on the reverse, but again I can't say for sure. If you put it under a good loupe or scope and see evidence of scrubbing, that might be a clue.

A little trivia on this issue: Thomas Shingles, the designer of the reverse, engraved the details entirely by hand--without the use of a Janvier reducing machine.

Thanks KurtS been after one of these 1949 dollars for ages as for cleaning well it just looks as if it has hard to tell, there is streaking on the coin, if this is the case will it devalue the coin..... from what a XF grade would be...
