Both fake sorry. There were no Trade dollars made in 1798....probably counterfeits from China sorry. They aren't even good fakes
Rest in Peace

I'm afraid both of these appear to be fake. The 1798 is especially bad because this isn't even the type of silver dollar that was produced during this time period.

Look to the left at the header titled US Coin Facts and look under Trade dollar for more specific information.

Both are counterfeit and most likely have no silver in them.

Yes, poor fakes. The 1798 is a new low, for sure.

Oh, god, the 1798. That would only fool a newbie.

I'm personally wondering myself how the username "Ash" wasn't taken until today.

For those still learning the subtleties of Trade dollar fakes, the first coin is obviously impossible because the design wasn't minted until 75 years after the date on the coin.

The second coin is obviously impossible because the reverse used is the Type 1, which ceased any production after 1876.

Both are plainly fake to the educated eye, but basic knowledge like mintage dates and design varieties is easily accessible to the rawest newcomer. Worry about that first, and the rest comes with experience.

SsDd, that's not to mention there's no such thing as a 1879 CC or a 1798 CC Trade dollar.

That fake 1798 Trade dollar would scare me more than that one time I found a GB penny coin with an American Airlines stamp on it.
