Welcome to the commemorative forum!

The visual quality of your scans makes it difficult for me to offer an informed opinion ... hopeful that you can improve upon them.

I can offer this ....

Both of those coins are valuable when authentic ... and the Hudson when in honest circulated state is doubly so to lowball commemorative collectors.

Both coins are easily available today ... alas ... as Chinese counterfeits ...

I'm doubtful of the authenticity of either coin ...

Have you performed the basic diagnostics of weight and diameter ... compared your coins to photographs of known genuine examples?

I'm quite certain the Hudson is a fake ... not so certain about the Missouri.

How did you obtain them? ... and tell us about weight.

David

Agree the Hudson is a fake. Would love some sharper, more natural pics.

hi guys and thanks for the welcome sorry for the poor quality scan, I don't know why it turned out like that. maybe the scanner has a problem I performed the ring test and the magnet test and they passed. as for weight the hudson is 12.54 grams and the missouri is 12.31grams. as for diameter the hudson is 30.42mm and the missouri is also 30.42mm. as for thickness it is approximately 2.04mm for the hudson and 1.9 for the missouri. I bought them from an antique shop while on vacation. how are you sertain the hudson is a fake? can you elaborate more for me to learn. would the chinese counterfeits have these specifications? thanks for the help

The specs and ring test can be perfect and the coins still be reproductions ; the 90% silver alloy in them is worth $4.98 each as of 3/30/16 ; certainly an affordable investment when selling for (whatever these coins cost).

I'm afraid I have to opine repros here, too many lettering inconsistencies amongst other clues.

Does anyone remember the "omega counterfeits" of St. Gaudens $20 and $3 golds? They were deceptive forgeries struck in a nearly perfect gold/copper alloy but the cocky forger included his tiny "omega" symbol.
