Hi, friends, this coin is listed in Krause in 3 gram weight, mut the coin from picture is only 2.5 gram. Also it has a dot in monogram as seen. Please help - is it authentic or not? Thanks

bobo13 Hello - I am not an expert in the specific type (I own only one that I have had since I was 10). However, the dot appears to be a centering dot for the die sinker - very typical of the era. The center do was used to scribe very light circular scratches on the die face so the sinker could layout lettering. That does not bother me at all. The die engraving looks fine as well. The coin may have been "cut down" to steal silver from the edge. Clipping or filing is possible. The coin is off center and in my opinion too much of the lettering is partially off flan.

I would check the edge but since this date is perhaps the most common of the series I would not be too concerned with a Numismatic Forgery.

Indeed it could've been clipped from the edge for the precious metal content.
The details aren't mushy and the lettering isn't all over the place - thus looking good.

Another thing with early coins is that sizes were at times irregular and consistent diameters and weights could not be produced becaouse of the technology used, thus half a gram less wouldn't worry me too much.
