If they were real, they'd be valued in the several thousands. Yours look to be fake though.

They did come with other coins which were are all authentic.... Including a 1788 massachusetts colonial coin.... These ones I just can't identify. He had a big collection. They all look fake? I know the one with the cut out middle looks fake to me too.

All the coins above are very old. The newest of which being around 267 years old and the oldest being over 2000. I may have spoken prematurely as to the genuinitely of them all based on the crudity of some.

Can you post high quality pictures of each side of each coin please. I'm sure the experts will weigh in.

Pretty sure the coins were cleaned before I was given them if it makes any difference.

I'll hold off on the Greek and Roman coins.

The Chinese "cash" coin is certainly fake, or rather a fantasy piece. The strength of the overall coin just doesn't match up with the "archaic" characters; if they are even Chinese.

The Chinese Cash coin (the one with the square/rectangular hole) is a modern charm based off of the ancient Ban Liangs. To my knowledge, they NEVER had rims on the reverse or characters on the reverse, and I have never seen one with such broad rims on the obverse. Not only that, but the fabric of the coin s just completely wrong.

Hoosiergator - I suppose I don't know the 1788 is definitely real as well. He was a coin collector though and the collection is probably around 400 coins. A lot of old one dollar coins (with D and S markings) including an 1801 one dollar. Which I believe is worth at least $700 on its own. He just liked coins so I want to believe that he wouldn't buy fakes, however, there was one old confederate replica in the collection that was still in the case, but the coin literally says "copy" on it. I can post a picture of the 1788 later when I get home.

The large coin at lower left in the original pic purports to be a Lysimachos silver tetradrachm, showing a deified Alexander the Great wearing the "horn of Ammon." May be legit (I have doubts, though), but be aware that there are lots of fakes of this type.

The rendition of the horn here is very unusual, looking more like a giant ear; instead of the horn tapering to a point, it seems here to meld into the top of the jawline. The only other specimen I've seen with such a rendition of the horn was the documented fake, below. Without the coin in hand, I cannot tell if yours is an exact match or not.

Center row, bottom coin purports to be an issue from Gela, Sicily: forepart of a man-faced bull on one side, slow quadriga right on the other, with Nike flying above the horses.

This is another very commonly faked issue. A better (closeup) pic, and posting to the Ancients board for opinions, would be helpful.

Top center appears to be a Maximinus II, with Moneta reverse...but hard to tell for sure. In any event it appears to reference a late Roman (4th century) bronze. In the pic it does not look bronze...which, if the case (that it's not bronze), would be a red flag and likely would indicate a fake.

Thank you Bob. Very insightful. I'm pretty confident they're all fakes then. Oh well, had nothing to lose. Thanks again for the info, greatly appreciated.

If you could, post a picture of the 1788 mass. cent. They are often times counterfeited, and really popular.

BobL has identified what they are supposed to be, and as he has said they sadly are all fake.
