I found this coin and I can't seem to find any info on it. ..any one know anything about it? It is a 1998-D penny, silver in color. It has a slight magnetic pull (the magnetic pull is not as strong as the 1943 steel penny) The magnet will pick it up, but it will slowly slide off. there are no acetone marks, no paint marks, no scratches.
I cannot find anything about this. Please help.

If it is magnetic, it is plated with something and considered post mint damage. If it wasn't magnetic there would be a chance that it is an unplated Zinc cent. It looks too shiny for that though, so I am voting on post mint plating.

If it was unplated, it wouldn't have been really shiny like this one.

Have you tried weighing the coin? A Zincoln will weigh about 2.5 grams.

If it isn't dime stock which you can tell by weighing it then it's plated which is what it looks like

It's been plated.

There's no way it left the mint looking like that.

Whoever did this did a pretty nice job plating it.

Keep it if you like it, but it's not an error coin.

Never hurts to ask.

Also, good pics. That helps a lot.

Acetone won't leave marks. It doesn't react with inorganic material (which is why it's popular with numismatists).

That being said, I too believe your coin is plated.

If you're somewhat interested in collecting, keep it! It's pretty neat and will only cost you a penny.
On a side note, please hold the rest of the coins you look at by the rim. Looking forward to seeing more posts about those wheat cents you mentioned! There's plenty of varieties so make sure you know what to look for, do a little research on misplaced mint marks and double dies

thank you for all the tips! as you can see, I have a lot of pennies to go through! I am new at this and inherited all of my grandfathers pennies and they got dumped in a bin when his estate was being gone through...he was the collector.

What a shame to see the cents getting dumped into a container like that! Argh!
