Just playing around with the spare O'Canada Box... Comments welcome, if you have a favourite 1/2 ounce coin, show us a picture. Looks like Northern Lights on the Igloo. Some maples and some colour ... Edited by SilverDon 08/31/2015 5:26 pm

Nice compilations, SilverDon
I letting go to some of my 1/2oz ...between them even 2012 Titanic and 2014 D Day. But what will I keep without thinking twice: 2012 Farewell To Penny - imo under-appreciated 2012 Praying mantis - the best artistic design 2011-now Maple Leaf (Forever) - the best price / quality series.

When is RCM going to release the monkey 1/2 oz $10 lunar coin? I'm doing the same thing with some of these boxes and was hoping to make a complete 12 coin lunar set in one........they released all the other size lunars but not the 1/2 oz :(

Agree with your assessment Silveroid, I like the design of the Preying Mantis and 1 Cent Rose Gold Plated from 2012. I also particularly like the Celebrating Canada Gold Plated coin from 2015, one of the best of this year, IMO.
Solidifier, I am also anxiously awaiting the release of the 1/2 ounce Silver coin Year of the Monkey. The horse and sheep were good designs and the mintages are not too high, the dragon mintage at 588,888 makes it a bullion issue, almost.

Quote: they released all the other size lunars but not the 1/2 oz :( Not exactly *all* the other size. Besides the 1/2 oz that many of us are waiting, also missing is the new series of coloured silver Lunar coin, weighted 23.17g, which the Mint started last year. Maybe the mint will start even more new Lunar series and have a second release this year .

Thanks andygroove and Welcome to the CCF Forum. The registration of the pad printing colour was a bit off but I was pleased with the design of the coin and although the original picture was in Black and White, the colour version of this coin is eye catching. You can see the discussion of the bad pad print job here. https://goccf.com/t/196322&whichpage=1

Thank you SilverDon.
I do have the 1/4oz uncoloured version of that coin, as well as a 5 pack of the toonies. I became interested in them upon hearing a CBC radio interview with the man who was the boy in the original photo. A touching story to be sure. You can probably find the interview in the archives section of the CBC radio website.
I read the link you posted, I'd be very disappointed if that was my coin. I suppose I'll have to buy one from a local dealer, that way I can inspect it first :)

I heard the same interview, his Mom and Dad split up after the War, heart wrenching story. "That's probably the last time we were together as a nuclear family, as they put it today," said Bernard in a recent telephone interview from his home. "We were never together again as a family after that moment." - Warren Whitey Bernard. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/the-st...ar-1.2037128I agree that having the ability of seeing the coin before purchase is the way to go. Me, I'm treating that coin as an error coin, misaligned colour. It's all about perspective.
