Hey, All. I just picked up this way cool, Double Dragon Chinese (Tibet) Silver Coin:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/collectible...6?euid=ff9ec527801940138ca63ce2cb395973&cp=1&nm.

I'd love to know what the characters on both sides say, and also if someone could guess-ti-mate the age/date of the coin. I'm sure that I'm just like most of you when we get a new, exotic coin, we try to learn all we can about it and the times and places of its provenance. Any help would be very, very appreciated. What a ngreat Forum. Where else could you even go to ask such a question? Thanks in advance. Jack

Fake? Thanks, you are most certainly correct. Notice what I paid for it? I couldn't be happier. I appreciate the input but I'm not opposed to counterfeits, reasonably priced, well-executed. It's still part of the fabric of history and that's my entire interest. If I were investing and hoping for a profit, I'd probably be a little less exuberant. Any time I buy something from China, the red flag is up. I hope the characters don't translate to something like "Gotcha", or "Sucker!" Jack

wonghingi - I really tried HARD not to make this post. I had even turned off my chromebook. BUT, it was keeping me awake...SO...I'm really sorry that my purchase of this copy upset you so much that you had to "suspend translation." I understand that its "meaningless" to YOU (much as your comments are to me). Have a nice warm glass of milk, take a deep breath. Everything is going to be fine.. Jack

I don't want to discomfort any people here. I am sorry to my poor skill of communication (also poor English standard) and bad-temper especially when I see a very poor fake coin. However as a member of the forum, this is my obligation to answer a question when I know what it is.

This is a sample coin struck by Royal Mint of UK. It weighs 37.7 gram if it is real because the denomination is one tael. The year struck may be 1857-1858. The Qing dynasty refused to use this coin for some reason. The auction price of this coin could be over US$100,000.00 nowadays.

Help!-Can-Anyone-Translate-Chinese?

At the outer circle, the top and bottom characters mean "Inside China and Foreign", the left and right characters is another way to say "money" in the ancient era.

Inside circle, from top to bottom, the three characters means "silver one tael". The left and right characters mean "by custom standard".

wonghingi - Thanks very much. By the way your English is actually quite good. I can tell by your post that you have done a great deal of research and have a great deal of knowledge. I bought this coin, knowing it was a copy, because there was no way I could afford a real one. I did actually contact the seller and suggest that he should include the word "COPY" in his listing description. As far as I can tell, all the coins he sells are copies (I think he currently has a US Trade dollar listed that's also not authentic). The seller didn't "fool" me. It was easy to see it wasn't authentic, so there's no need, at least for me, to be angry. If you're angry about the seller, you could maybe channel that anger by reporting him to ebay. I felt like you were lashing out at me for making the purchase. I hope that's not the case. I thank you for taking time to help with the translation and hope one day I can also help you. God bless you. Jack
