If it's that obvious to us, it must also be obvious to ebay. I think stomperbob is correct. As long as nobody reports these obvious FAKES, with deliberate intention to deceive, ebay is happy to take everyone's money.

And, there is a difference between a counterfeit, meant to circulate, and a FAKE that's meant to deceive collectors. The true counterfeit documents a point in history, the state of the art (at that point in time), and could still be considered art worthy.

The only time a FAKE item is pulled is if one of us reports it, and then, within minutes, the same item is re-listed by a new seller with a name like Fooldyu. I can't believe ebay doesn't see what's really going on. That sort of makes them complicit. And, if you watch some of the auctions that don't get reported, they end up costing the Buyer $50, or more. I've see the same (or similar) 1878 Trade dollar, listed by 4 different Seller. One recently sold for $46, and the Buyer thinks he got the deal of the century. I just reported a "Fat Man Dragon Dollar" (FAKE) that had a starting price of $39.99! It's sad, and it's NOT right. Jack

Our old friend bangbang is BACK. He has an entire page of these coins German coins described as, "Valuable Old Chinese Coin - Worth Collecting." Interestingly, the reverse is written in GERMAN and celebrates a German shooting contest! ebay has NO INTEREST in protecting bidders from FRAUD.

Look at the wear and gouges at the 8 and 9 o'clock positions on the obverse. They are all identical! This is beyond the pale and is outright thievery for the poor bidder who doesn't know any better. Jack
