Star Trek: Voyager debuted in 1995 and ran for seven seasons until 2001. In a unique development, it saw the franchise's first female captain in a central role. Played by American actress Kate Mulgrew, Kathryn Janeway is a tough and courageous commander - highly intelligent, thoughtful, dedicated and diplomatic.

The action takes place in the 2370s. While attempting to capture the crew of a rebel Maquis vessel, her ship is pulled into the distant Delta quadrant by powerful alien technology. Stranded 70,000 light-years from Earth, Janeway convinces the renegades to join her Starfleet crew and serve together during the long voyage home to Federation space.

Smaller than either Kirk's or Picard's starships — its crew complement is only 150 — U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 is nevertheless one of the most technologically advanced vessels in Starfleet. With the ability to land on a planet's surface, its technical innovations include bio-neural circuitry, variable geometry warp nacelles, and an Emergency Medical Holographic program.
