I have a question regarding this coin. Depending on which site I search some say ALL 1971 nickels without a mm are the error proof coin. Is this the case?

This only applies to the Proof Nickels missing the "S" mint mark. The business strike nickels (common circulation) were missing the "P" mint until 1980. Then the "P" was added from then forward on the nickels. So if your coin is a business strike nickel, then it could be missing the mint mark showing it was struck in Philadelphia.
