Knowing my interest in coins and anything old a friend of mine gave me this to investigate, it isn't really my field though I am hopeful that somebody will be able to tell me something...

I think it could be an apothecary weight but where it came from and how old would be the main questions.

It measures 38mm and the weight is around 25g (measured with the kitchen scales so it could be an ounce)

Apothecary-Weight?

Apothecary-Weight?

The back has distinctive rings...

Apothecary-Weight?

On the front at the top it seems to have a cross with maybe a number to the right? I can't make out what it says.

Apothecary-Weight?

At the bottom I am unsure whether this mark is some sort of stamp or just a crease in the metal from casting?

Any information appreciated ^^

If it is a weight, should it not have some calibration stamps?

25g = about .88 avdp oz. or .80 troy oz. Unusual for a weight. I would guess votive holder/base for a candle, hole in the center is where the spike would have been.
