I am new to coins and this forum. I recently inherited a large and very varied coin collection. It contains a lot of error coins which is a subject I know little about. One of the coins is a Jefferson nickel with notes attached that say 'wire stamped into coin." Is this a mint error or did it occur afterwards?

Almost looks like a staple. It looks real to me. Get it certified, and it should bring som big bucks.

While the front looks like a genuine error, I question the Edge as with the tonnage pressure used, I would think the wire would be embedded into the edge ------ I could be wrong ----- and NOT every Coin or Note needs to be Certified...

I'll let others chime in on the edge while I screen save & crop the edge for a larger and clear view... Maybe I can add the photo below...

Now I'm just as confused as before...
I'm gonna go 70/30 on this one...

Somehow I missed the reverse view, now I'm at 95/05% it's a genuine error.

Is there some reference where I could judge a fair price for an error of this kind?

Only auction could tell. It varies by collector.

Some of these sell for stupid money. I'd contact Fred Weinberg about this one. He has owned and sold a few.

Unfortunately, I am too new and cannot contact any member directly until I have 50 posts. Would someone be willing to forward it to him on my behalf?
