This MM is looking slightly different from MMS-008. (http://www.varietyvista.com/San%20F...20Styles.htm )

It may be just circulation wear, but I would be interested in any observations. MM-008 is supposed to be a "Tall Mintmark" but I don't understand how to measure that?

Hey Pete2226, Pete41 here. I increased the size of your photo to about the same size as in VV. You are correct it should be a tall S, but it definitely looks thicker than the VV example. Can you get a better picture of just the MM? Might be wear or a couple hits but hard to tell in the current pics.

Thanks for looking, Pete41.

I am not sure this is much better, but I think this is all I can do. There is a line or 2 inside the lower curl, and a bit inside the upper curl. Also the upper serif appears to be more of a ball. than 008.

It almost looks to me like a repunched mintmark. There are none listed in Coppercoins for a 1973 S but your coin looks like the 1974 S that is listed on CC. See the link. While the 74 mm is different, the lines on your coin are similar to those on the 74 which is a RPMM. Need some experts to weigh in on this one!

I just found another 1973-S. Here is a comparison:

Hey Pete. Re Pete here

I would respond to my note and suggest a change to your subject line at the end to "Possible Unlisted RPMM" because it sure looks like it to me. The lines we see I think are called splits as they are in the 74. Not as prominent but they seem to be there in the same places. Could be a new variety. FWIWorth
