Humiliatingly, the more I specialize and learn about all kinds of numismatic topics, the less I remember about coins from my own country. I didn't even have a 1935 silver dollar... until now.

How's-This-1935-Dollar?

It looks a bit cleaned, but I guess it's not entirely disgusting - and, of course, it is one of those "definitive" Canadian coins. Do you think it was worth it for $25?

Yes 25 bucks is fair . Some dealers pay close to that for EF or better.

That's a nice score for $25! I just started collecting recently. I don't have a '35 yet but I do have a '36 and a '39.

As you can tell by my Avatar, 1935
is my favourite obverse dollar.
Ebays average selling price for a 35 dollar in
that condition is $34.00 so you did good.

My favorite Canadian coin too, I have about a dozen of them, I can`t resist nicely toned or brighter and shinier ones.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Now, the only problem with this coin is that it's been polished (but not even completely, as you can tell from the remaining dark patches). Do you think it would make a good pocket piece?

acetone will do nothing on this coin as there's no dirt or grime that needs to be removed... the dark spots you see is toning.. actone doesn't affect toning
