so recently I was in bath so I went to the coin store there and while looking through the threepences I saw a groat/ourpence so bought it and a couple of threepences. Should I have told them of their mistake or was it fair game?

Don't assume they weren't aware.

It's an old shop-keeper's trick that I was taught when I had a Saturday job at the grocer when I was 14.

"Put a couple of broken chocolate biscuits in the bargain broken plain biscuits tub, every so often, it tempts people to buy thinking they're getting them cheap.

The local stamp-dealer used the same trick, putting a few Victorian 1d reds into the 20 stamps for 10/- (50p) box.
