Hello,

My mom has this beat up old coin in a box of coins. Does anyone have any idea what it is? It is a head on the front of the coin and I can't make out what is on the back. She thinks that the man who collected it got it from the middle east when he was there during WWII, but she is not sure about that. Thanks for any help you can give. :-)

It is a Tetradrachn from Alexandria in Egypt. The image is a bit dark so I can't make out who it is. But it does look a bit like Severus Alexander. Would also need to see a picture of the reverse side. During the time this coin was struck Egypt was under the control of Rome. So this is a Roman Provincial coin.

Thank you! I have now uploaded the back side as well. Does anyone know if something that is in such bad shape as this is worth anything?

Good call Petrus and Echizento. I would say that it also Roman. Danielh honestly a coin is only worth what someone who is willing to pay for it. I'm pretty sure that you can sell it for no more 10 dollars. It's still pretty cool. Most collectors have coins in a condition that is somewhat better than this. It's still a great ancient find.
