If the color is accurate (grayish) then this could be a cast copy.

It is of an early Byzantine follis for Maurice (582-602) from the mint at Nicomedia, year 5.

The original coin was copper/bronze so why it would be a copy is not clear. It is entirely probable it is an original with mushy details, but the color does not look right on my monitor.

It's a Byzantine Follis of the emperor Maurice Tiberius from the Nicomedia mint, first Officinae, regnal year 5. 586/587 AD. I believe it's Sear number 512.

Thanks folks!!....so it's a common coin.
Sorry for the lighting; no it's copper/bronze in color, not gray at all. I looked it over carefully and it is not cast.

So am I right in saying these examples sell for somewhere around $50 to $75 dollars?
