Any advice on where to get and what type of gloves to use when working with raw coins? It seems all the ones I see have very wide thread spacing and you can see skin through them, I can't imagine they do that good a job protecting your coins. I'm especially wanting some for working with my lincolns.

What do you guys use and where do you get them?

I work in the semiconductor industry so I have access to latex gloves that we use in manufacturing. I will typically cut the fingers out of them so my entire hand doesn't sweat, and just use the gloves like that. Or should I say the "tips" like that. I think a lot of people use cotton gloves but I found that they can leave lint and such on the holders/coins, regardless if they say "lint free", and I agree that the oils of your hands may be able to seap through over time.

If you go the latex route, make sure there is not powder on the gloves to preserve them and make them easier to slip on.

You can usually get these from any coin dealer or any of the websites that sell coin supplies.

I use latex gloves (the kind that surgeons use). They're cheap, common, and will serve almost any purpose.

You can also buy cotton gloves at most pharmacies.
These work very well.

If you go to a music store you can purchase a pair of really good quality white cotton gloves that clarinet players use.
I have found them to be superior to most cotton coin gloves, and they don't leave any lint either. Best of luck!

I recently discovered the gloves at my local pharmacy. They work ok, but I am really leaning toward the latex gloves. Is there any reason not to use latex as opposed to cotton?

Cotton glove liners at the army/navy store for $1 per pair. They have them in camo also if you want to handle your coins covertly in the woods.

At last !

Beware: I recently bought a camo watch. If I could remember where I put it, I'd know if it keeps good time.

Back on topic: I bought some cotton gloves in my supermarket, about 80% cheaper than at the pharmacy adjacent.
I assume they are washable, and if I was worried about lint, I'd run 'em through the machine a few times.

The good thing is: cotton gloves are sold by the pair; latex, vinyl, & other synthetic gloves all come in big boxes, in sufficient quantity to outlast me by several lifetimes.

Regarding the fact that one can "see through" the cotton fabric: the glove is only there to absorb sweat before it gets on your coin. There are realistic limits to what is possible.
For example: You should not handle coins while jogging in the noon-sun.
Stick to "handl[ing] your coins covertly in the woods."
Or in the shade, after washing, rinsing, and drying your hands.

I just wash my hands well with a strong soap. No gloves. Just my bare hands and lots of being careful.

I find myself dropping more coins if I do not have the natural tactile feeling. Yes, I am a natural klutz!

If you go to the hospital for a check up or physical you may want to ask if you can have a few latex gloves. Most of them don't use powder and the nurses are usually nice enough to give you a few. If you cut the fingers out of them, you can make a couple of pairs last for a while. At least, that was my experience.
