I've been working to get better pictures of my coins...but after awhile you tend to not see the shortcomings of your photos because you are excited about the improvement.

This Half Cent is dark in hand, and the photos are pretty accurate as to color and appearance, but how's the lighting, focus, etc.?

Those are some very nice pics Hunter. I think the lighting is good, there are no bright highlights and not to much shadow ( easier on circ coins I know ) and the clarity is great ! I am sure a pretty accurate grade could be made from these pics. If the color is accurate- it does appear to have coloring consistant with coins I have seen from that period- I say you have a winning combination for brown copper.

Also, it looks like the pic was taken through a 2x2 mylar ? if so bravo, I can never get rid of the glare on the sometimes wrinkled plastic- I usually take pics before I put it in or take it out for pics.

Thanks for the kind words InfiniteInterest. Even though the background looks a bit like a 2x2, it isn't. The coin was set on a piece of white cardboard that has a bit of pattern to it.

Here's another set. This coin is not dark, but rather a rich brown. It has a repunched date (see picture 3).

Those are gorgeous pics, Hunter. The shadows are important to establish contrast between fields and devices, in my mind, and you've got the lighting nailed from that aspect. This is proof that you can achieve superior results with one light.

Thank you, Amazon! Now if only I could get my pictures of silver coins to this level! Obviously I need another, different, technique!
