I agree with John. The intention behind free gifts given through loyalty programs is it's intended to be appreciated by the recipient for having achieved the special status. So don't expect a goose coin to be valued on the secondary market considering RCM is in the business of churning out too many dime a dozen coins each month already and it's widely known by coin collectors that a sizeable portion of their sales are achieved from hopeful flippers who are in it for the money only, no interest in the hobby.

Does not matter if the coin is exclusively for MC members because there is a value for everything on the secondary market. What the value is will depend on the scarcity. If it is at 6000 coins it is unlikely to be that high. Flipping for money has been dead for a couple of years. I doubt that a sizable portion of the sales are from flippers. Besides, flipping coins and enjoying coins are not mutually exclusive. You can be a coin collector AND be a flipper. Practically all coin collectors sell coins they no longer want.

There is nothing wrong with anyone flipping coins it's a sign of a strong vibrant hobby, remember the anticipation of new releases. Now everyone yawns at the endless monthly releases such as the looney tune series coins like this is destroying the hobby. A platinum plus member would not be too pleased to consider this coin as a major reward for being such a large customer. You can buy any RCM coins at around 5% discount at all the large dealers, 5000.00= 250.00 so here is your 99.00 coin and 40.00 case, again whoopi!

Remember that RCM is a Crown Corporation. Therefore it's just not reasonable to expect that it give valuable freebies away in the same way that most corporations do, in rewarding their best customers. I wonder if Canada Post's "best" clients receive anything for filing our boxes with all that junk mail? How about CRA rewarding those who pay the highest taxes the earliest in the year? <joking>

Why bother calling it a "Masters Club" then ,might as well just call it the " RCM coin club" since the freebies will be available to pretty much anyone for the normal price, maybe the case might be different if it has an "master club" logo on it, or some such, but even then , its just a case.

This will be the difference between Master's Club collectors vs flippers. When I (a collector) receive a gift (any gift for that matter) it's "thank you very much, it's greatly appreciated" where the flippers will just be thinking "mmmm I wonder how much I'll be able to get for that?" Personally, I am looking forward to both the coin and the RCM collector case.

Doesn't need to be a MC to get free shipping. Free shipping regardless of how much you spend. Keep in Mind, CP is not the one producing these coins. They are just dealers. They occasionally put the coins up on sale where as RCM never put any coins up on sale

They occasionally put the coins up on sale where as RCM never put any coins up on sale Sorry Lostwords, the comparison I was making - both RCM and CP are Crown Corporations, legally owned by the people of Canada. Yes it's true that many business absorb the cost of postage as a general business expense but that doesn't mean they've arranged to ship for free of charge. So my point was that It would be unusual for other "best customers" of other Crown Corps to be offered gifts of any great value in exchange for their business and it would be unreasonable to expect the general public to condone such a practise. Also keep in mind, in a business sense, RCM does not even have competitors - no one else is allowed to mint Canadian collector coin. But in the general marketplace freebies and incentives are generally offered so that clients might prefer the benefits of one company over another. You can be assured RCM profits from Cdn collector coin, whether directly sold by them or through a dealer. In my opinion, that's why the goose coin should be thought of only as a token of appreciation, exactly in the way that Dcadon has very graciously expressed in his/her post.

Thing is, I bet there are more master club members who are flippers then are normal collectors who by the will most likely want to or need to sell at some point.

See the one guy / lady's question on other forum: "Do you guys spend thousands for RCM stuff?" To make some real money from the coins, even RCM stuff, need to have large amount of free spendable money. If you have it - take a risk, buy a lot and sell a lot - this way your gains will cover the loss.

Flippers or not, some of the largest dealers act like flippers on hot issue coins, yet the RCM doesn't police their own policies regarding sellouts. Just look at my example you spend 5000.00 at a reward dealer, you earn 250.00, yet this RCM reward equals this 99.00 coin and a 40.00 to 50.00 case, how's that for rewarding most of your best customers, this new MC system was flawed right from the get go,I guess they were trying to weed out the 20 for 20 buyers and the gold hoard fiasco. This was advertise a some kind of really exclusive club, a 99.00 run of the mill coin is surely nothing special, as you can clearly see in my example above, you are 100.00 or so ahead just buying the same amount at a rewards dealer.

In my humble opinion, buying RCM collector coin for the sole purpose of flipping is a game clearly destined for failure. You'd have a better chance of success by playing the stock market, shutting your eyes and selecting a few picks, spending your money at a casino or buying lotto tickets. Either way, you're gambling. RCM is not a non-profit organization -- it mints and prices products in relation to the quantity and highest price that they believe the market can bear. Certainly people have made money flipping real estate, vehicles or other goods on the short term but it's most often because they put a certain amount of work or money into improving or upgrading the original purchase. Collector coin? Not the same whatsoever. RCM offerings are not secret so only a select few happen to know what's for sale and capture a good deal. RCM has an aggressive marketing program, plus even if something sells out, dealers who buy are sure to stock it. No shortage of distribution points of RCM product. Coin nor any type of collectibles have NEVER been promoted as a short term investment option, couple that with the price of bullion, most certainly not, creates even higher risk. I could be wrong but it almost seems as if RCM has collected a sizeable following who see themselves similar to an unofficial sales force who are under the mistaken impression they have the ability to buy a RCM product at cost, rather than at retail value. The reason this might be so is most odd to me because it's not as if anyone ever thinks of buying stuff from other retailers such as Lowrs, The Bay or Walmart, thinking they can flip it for a higher price once stock has run out. My concern of this topic is nothing more than perhaps giving those who think there's quick money to be made in flipping RCM products something to think about. If you're interested in buying collector coin, do so for the right reason: That being it's for the satisfaction of it becoming part of your own personal collection.

I respectfully disagree, coins are a collectible but you don't expect them to drop half in value the next day as they all seem to be recently because of the mass over issues. Most of us still consider the coins we buy as a beautiful themed hobby with no intentions of instant reselling. Back to this issue of the RCM rewarding this group of MC, who's great idea this coin is a good incentive, it's like a 5.00 bottle of wine at the grocery store last minute purchase to a good friend's party. I truly believe most platinum plus members consider this offer more of insult rather than it's intended purpose.
