I have been kicking myself for years over this. I remember when the proof sets came out for that year and I saw lots of these proof sets with No S for issue price at a coin shop. Wish I would have bought them all. But what 14 year old kid had that kinda money?

Hard to believe a coin shop would sell those no S proof sets at issue prices.

I guess at the time it wasn't widely known the scarcity of the error. Or maybe they just didn't realize it.
