today I took the time too take some pics of already cataloged pieces, but as novice i'd like some confirmation on my observations. and could you grade them at the same time please i have a large cent 1837 and I think it is with the '38 head and not in good shape a 1798 cent with the revese of '96..i can't remeber why I came to this conclusion its been a couple of month since I looked these up Nway I got some more large cents that need confirmation like a 1834 large star ,large 8 and large letters if I made that out correctly . but thas for a other day. hope you guys like them cents being kept safe in Belgium :) Edited by dohcollector 09/21/2015 4:51 pm

While large cents aren't my area of expertise, there are members here who can assist you.
Hopefully they'll see this and chime in.

The 1837 is the Head of '38 because of the beaded hair cords. The 1798 is a reverse of '97 (not '95) because of the double leaves at the top of the wreath. Can't tell if yours is 1st or 2nd hair style though, maybe someone else can.

I'm impressed with the 1798. I've never seen one of that variety "in the wild". I do have one, but I had to buy it already attributed. They probably are seldom seen unattributed because this one is so easy to recognize. S-171 R-4 The Cud to the left of LIBERTY makes for positive identification. S-171 almost ALWAYS comes with the Cud. That's why the variety is scarce. The Cud caused the obv die to be retired early.

The only way to price something like this is by actual auction sales or the specialist price guides Copper Quotes or Penny Prices. Copper quotes is no longer published and is five years out of date. I don't have the latest edition of Penny Prices. The coin is low grade with problems, but if I was looking for the the variety for my collection I would have no problem paying $100 - $125 for it. May even a little more. (The five year old Copper Quotes shows about $50 for a AG.)
