Hi Durkastani. Is it raised or incuse? Die chip or gouge then possible or do you think it is PSD. Kind of hard to see from pic.

Nah, not a hit 100%. PMD comes with a ridge on one side or the other where metal was displaced.

From your photos, it looks like a nick to me, along with the other ares noted: Maybe a clearer photo would show more. Are you thinking it is a struck through debris error?

A small hit like that won't make a huge ridge. If you shine your light at a different angle, you would be able to see one.

It is coin contact. There is no ridge. Try rotating the coin and you will see the mark is incuse. ( PSD) When you rotate you coin 90 degrees to the right, you can see the mark is incuse from coin contact.

I'm not sure you're understanding what I said Coop. See the third comment down you will note my statement "It's incuse" clearing up the question of raised or incuse. Now the question was whether it is PMD which I do not believe to be so because a while a hit is incuse, it will have a raised ridge somewhere as a result of metal displaced by the hit. 100%.

Durkkastani, it looks like it wasn't a scratch, looks to have been more of an even dent. This would have displaced most of the metal into the coin, and possiblally with a barely distinguishable subtle, even displacement around it. In either case, it is definitely PSD. Better luck on the next one.

Coinmaster, I'm a professional sheet metal mechanic by trade. I've seen 1,000,000 dents in metal. This, 100%, is no dent.

Durkastan, you might be a professional sheet metal mechanic. I'm relieved that you didn't profess to be an English Professor. Here is the first definition listed for the word "dent". dent /dent/ noun noun: dent; plural noun: dents Quote: 1.
a slight hollow in a hard, even surface made by a blow or by the exertion of pressure.
synonyms: indentation, dimple, dip, depression, hollow, crater, pit, trough You said it was incuse, it is 100% a dent. Unfortunately it's not the coin you had hoped for, it is PSD. Fortunately though, it puts you one coin closer to finding a good one. Happy hunting!
