Hello, I am looking to unload a sum of foreign coins and am wondering how to approach it. The only thing I know for certain is that I absolutely want to avoid using ebay. Been on the website for a long time, but only purchasing, never selling and never will. Ten percent of profits from each and every sale is far too much in my honest opinion. But, anyway, back to the matter at hand. I've searched around for a few days now and haven't found a good alternative. The coins I am selling are not very high value individually (max $125-$150) but will add up to a decent amount, certainly enough to pick up a thaler or other crowns. They are all raw and upgraded but guaranteed genuine so I do not think I would be sending them off to an auction house or "big time" online auction site. Are there any sites which you at the coin community sell on that are reliable, popular and/or highly trafficked, and easy to sell on? ebay, unfortunately, is, far and away, the most highly trafficked site I can think of and I would like to put the coins in some sort of online auction like that. I have thought about heading to the next coin show near me and trying there, but last time I attempted such a thing I was looked at as if I had three heads. Turns out not many local dealers even sell any foreign coins and all but one of them said they would give me melt value for the Silver and only a few cents for the coppers as they were all going to end up in the junk box anyway, according to the dealers. Unfortunately, I believe online auctions or a buy it now process would be the most efficient way to sell the coins in a timely manner. Please, if anyone knows of any route I am missing, let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this.

ebay is pretty much the primary outlet for the type of coins you are talking about. I'm not a big fan of all of the fees, but I'm not sure I can do better elsewhere the majority of the time.

You can try www. (207) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com they are not strong on traffic, but they only take 2% total. And you can just let the items sit, and wait. Otherwise I know of no comparable site to ebay as their traffic is enormous! I too despise the 10% hit, so I sell on (207) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed , as GSDykes. It is not sub-divided for world coins, the search engine for each seller is good though. So if a buyer sees something they like, they go to your "store" and there search your world coins by country et cetera. Check it out.

Have you tried craigslist? Facebook? Or your local newspaper? John1

You seem to want the most money, but don't want to have to pay any seller fees or expend effort to get it. That's not gonna work out too well. So, here's the deal as I see it: You can do Craig's list/facebook etc and get lowball offers out the kazoos. You can set up at the local flea market and be low balled all day by "tire kickers". You can sell them to your local coin shop for maybe 20% of catalog value (if you are lucky!). You went to the coin show and found out the stuff you have isn't near as good as you think it is based on the offers and reception you received. (Three heads? Really? Haven't heard that one before!) I suggest you at least "test the water" by trying to sell a few of your coins with the fixed price format on ebay. At least you'll get your coins in front of buyers that are interested in your items. That 10% selling fee is a small price to pay when you are selling your stuff at closer to retail. Good luck whatever you decide.

GSDykes, thank you. I am already on that website which was deleted for some reason.
And Westernsky, of course I want the most money with the least fees. Don't we all?
And, yes, believe it or not, three heads. Not because what I had wasn't good, but because they had no idea what it was.

Tom007...
Selling fees are part of life. You get what you pay for. You can create your own website and sell from it, too. (Let me know how that works out if you go that route.)
Of course, minimizing your selling fees is great. But what point is there when you have a venue that charges no fees but has ZERO traffic? You can tell everybody "I didn't pay any fees", but on the other hand you have to add in "...but I didn't sell anything either". That doesn't make a lot of sense where I come from.
I don't want to discourage you but you need to realize that you will pay fees to the site host that is driving traffic to your items. Besides, 10% is small price to pay if your stuff is selling at, or near, retail

Contact Don Erickson and Paul Bosco in New York. It depends a lot on what you have. They might be willing to deal if they have specific coins you want. Here's a link to Don's stock list. http://www.dnecoins.comIt's generally a buyer's market unless you're in the country of origin or you have an exceptional rarity. I've gotten great foreign coins out of junk boxes and bullion silver sacks, which says a lot about how foreign coins are valued in the USA.

Thank you all very much for the advice. I have found it is truly a buyer's market here in America. But, I have had very good luck unloading the coins to people overseas where prices can double or triple those of the ones you can buy the coins at here.
Perhaps I will try to contact some overseas shops to see of they would be interested. Obviously they would want a wholesale price, but wholesale in Europe is still probably more than retail here I'm the US

I have also foreign coins that according to a certain grading company or two are worth much more than any US coin collector appears to be aware of, or so they say. I have researched and logged each coins value and am beginning to be suspect of anyone who says these coins have not any value. (here in the USA anyway) Some of them are worth thousands to collectors of World Coins. All you need to do is research auctions and you can find this information. I shudder to think of the ones tossed away or given out....(the same for our coins actually) That being said, Some who collect only US coins may consider searching the foreign coins as well, we aren't the end all in collecting coins you know! There are Canadian, Great Britain, Eire (Ireland), Africa, etc. coins that are highly sought after. Why this is not addressed on this forum or others and the coins played down I'm not certain. Just takes the tenacity to do the research and the tenacity to not be played down is what I am thinking in order to find your market and sell these coins. As for not wanting to pay ebay, well who really does as the OP said? To try and shame them for that is really not polite. JMHO
