Finding an older series note (1963A) in circulation is remarkable. Someone squirreled the note away and then set it free at a later date. The lifespan of a one dollar bill was 18 months back in the 90's and has grown to 70 months now.

Stever - To what do you attribute this remarkable increase in lifespan over such a short period?

I believe it's because of two reasons.
First, I believe we use the $1 less often now. Purchasing power requires the $5, $10, or $20 more often now than the $1.
Second, the BEP destroys less currency than it did in the 90's, as shown in this chart.

Got this $5 star note when I cashed in a lottery ticket. Cool backstory to this star note.

Whenever I go to the grocery store before I leave I always go over the the lottery ticket kiosk where they keep a small trash can so people can throw away their non winning tickets. Well the Hoosier Lottery has several 2nd chance drawings on some of the tickets so I pull all the tickets and take them home and enter the ones that are eligible and recycle the ones that are not.

Well, when I went to enter this one in, it said "Congratulations, you won $5" Gotta love people who don't know how to play scratch offs! Ironically, this is the 2nd winner I pulled out of the trash in a month. The other was a $20 winner! Nothing like FREE MONEY!

Is it gross to pull trash out, yeah, however, I don't care who you are or your wealth status, ANYONE, would pull a lottery ticket out of the trash if they knew there was a winner in there.

Awesome Bryan.

This is the first I've heard about any 2nd chance lottery drawings.
Rest in Peace

@Bryan78, That is a great story and probably the most unique way I've ever heard of obtaining a star note

Here in California all of the non winning scratchers are eligible for second chance drawing. Over the years I have entered over 20,000 second cance tickets that I have picked up or have been given and have yet to win anything! I gave up entering them in March of this year.

Just thought I'd share this

If you live in Florida (as your name suggest),the Florida lottery might have some as well. I remember a few years ago entering a bunch in for a second chance drawing down there when I was vacationing.

I won one time on one. I hit a $1000 out at the local casino on New Years Eve and two days later I got a call and email from the Hoosier Lottery saying I hit for $777. I was one of five people in the state to hit on that drawing.

Needless to say, the month of January was a very good month for me because I also got a bonus and perfect attendance award money from work. I wish every month was like that!
