" 221896408357" Very poor example but a very common one.. straight from china. I messaged the seller, and also reported the item. we will see what happens.

The Queen Elizabeth side didn't jump out at me, but the leaf is poorly done. The veins and detail are all wrong. I am not familiar with the series, but that was my first impression. Thanks for posting and educating.

For people who mot familiar with the series: There is no Proof finished (frosted on the mirror) Silver Maple Leaf except the 1989. It is priced CAD 50 - 100 and comes with wooden box and COA. Alternative and rare case - the 1989 Three Metal set was separated, and Proof SML sold individually. And these, fakes, mimic the Proof finish.

The Chinese counterfeit's most obvious tell is the lack of texture on the Maple Leaf itself. It looks like a child's drawing of a maple leaf, while the actual RCM product looks like an actual leaf. The Queen's portrait has crows feet at the end of her eye on the RCM coin, while the Chinese version gave her a large droop at the end of her eye. The feed back from people who bought the Chinese fakes also indicate the the fake is magnetic, so it appears to be steel rather than silver. No matter how fussy they make the picture, the leaf still looks phoney, so just look at the leaf of a real one, and you will notice the phoney ones right away.

I live in China and have seen some fake coins and bills in Shanghai at a second-hand market but they were obviously fake. They were also selling fake US passports. I wish I had picked some up.

From Tom Swift: "I live in China and have seen some fake coins and bills in Shanghai at a second-hand market but they were obviously fake. They were also selling fake US passports. I wish I had picked some up."
Why pick some up?

Souvenirs. Where else can you get such obviously fake products? They had bundles of $100 bills as well as Trade dollars, all obviously fake.

Is there any new reporting measures that work, since ebay disbanded the coin watch program, with it's team of experts? Just curious what the current situation is?
