Some hard hits, but truly an EPIC coin

MS-63 RD

By the way, is your white balance off? Seems to me it should be more redish.

I guess I am going to be the odd man out. I notice a break in natural surface luster on the cheek bone, ear and hair curl above it, jaw, edges of coat lapel, and some odd spots on the reverse surface. The luster breaks appear to be light wear to me. I think the coin has been dipped as it doesn't have that cherry original red color. I'd grade this one AU-58.
Let the boos begin.

No boos. I held off chiming in because of the softness of the fields/colour on the reverse, but ended up hoping it just the angle or something of the photos that made it look so.

It either has to be AU details or UNC. I'll choose AU details cleaned because it's hard for me to see how it can be so clean unless it was stored in a vaccuum.

The surfaces do not match the color.

I thought perhaps rusted dies, but that doesn't hold up on thorough examination.

The even brilliant red of the color + the slight rub on cheek and right lapel = AU details coin to me, questionable color.

I saw this post this morning. I didn't comment because I chickened out. It looks "off" to me. I wondered if Thad was testing us. I agree that the color gives me the impression it was cleaned, seems too pale for the age, and it has some hits on the obverse and rims. I go AU details, but I am still learning.
