Hello everyone,

This is my first post in this section of the forum, so before I post I just wanted to say hello! Anyway, I recently picked this coin up and am wondering if the accepted offer price is reasonable. It was $110, not too sure how I did so I came here looking for some opinions.

Here are photos:

to the Ancient/Medieval coin section

This is not my area of collecting but there are others here that should be able to help. Here is a link to a few that have been up for auction that might give you and idea. http://www.acsearch.info/search.htm...r=0&company=

Has been illegally clipped (at a time when it circulated) so that the silver can be sold as bullion.
The clipping reduces its numisamatic value.

The "clipping" was not uncommon and was the reason that milled coinage was introduced...this is the derivation of the words around the edge of the pound coin "Decus et Tutamen" meaning "an ornament and a safeguard"

Anyway... one good way to judge is by searching for others and see what they are priced at. There are not so many of these coins for sale though. Checking V-coins I see a better one for £130. I would be guessing that you paid about the right money for the coin.

Having a look at Spinks I see there are many varieties and certain ones are much bigger money than others (York mint annulet issue for instance) but I think yours looks like Calais Spinks number 1859 - Don't take my word on it maybe someone else can confirm if I am IDing it correctly.

My Spinks is an older volume, and I know a couple of the catalogue numbers did change, and also with so many similar coins maybe I could have it wrong (but it looks like the illustration to me) it being an old volume the value is not relevant but it seems to be one of the more common types.

Not really knowing anything about this coin type, I would have never guessed it was clipped. To me it just looked like the coin was struck off centered.

Try Heritage Auctions for value in the US. You have to register but it is free. They have all the old auction records and coins like this are offered often enough for you to get an idea.
