It has to do with the letter position relative to leaf tips to D, S, F, and C on uniteD stateS oF ameriCa. IT was developed by Newcomb.

Not sure what a few of the abbreviations you list are, but the official list is:

PL- Past Left
L- Left
NL- Near Left
NC- Near Center
C- Center
SPC- Slightly Past Center
PC- Past Center
NR- Near Right
R- Right
SPR- Slightly Past Right
PR- Past

Does anyone know how to interpret the above when analyzing a LC? The Noyes' book 1816 - 1839 LCs typically shows this type of information.

Also the yet-to-be defined PLF, FPR, PLD, PLS, NIT,& PHL came from either this same Noyes' book or from Sheldon's Penny Whimsy 1793 - 1814.

It refers to the positions below the four major letters
the point of leaf below the D is below the Center
The point of leaf below the S is Nearly Right
the point of leaf below the F is Slightly Past Center
and the point of leaf below C is Nearly Center
